	~~The~~ FSC ~~arose out of the~~ [[BoyChat Steering Committee~~]] founded by [[Jimf3]] and the name~~ "Free Spirits Committee" ~~was in use by late~~ 1997. ~~In its early years~~, ~~the FSC struggled to bring into operation its own web server to give Free Spirits more independence from commercial [[ISP]]'s and the webmaster of [[~~BoyChat~~]] was automatically the chairman of the committee~~.		Das FSC entwickelte sich aus dem "[[BoyChat]] Steering Committee", der Name "Free Spirits Committee" kam 1997 auf. Anfänglich kämpfte FSC für einen eigenen Webserver, um unabhängig von kommerziellen Providern zu werden, und der Webmaster des BoyChat war automatisch Vorsitzender des Kommittees.

	~~As Free Spirits took on more projects~~, ~~many of them hosted under~~ [[FPC]], ~~it eventually became clear that one committee could no longer oversee all its projects and still concentrate on maintaining the most important objective~~, ~~which was connectivity for those projects~~. Im Dezember 1999 begann das FSC daher, relativ unabhängige Personen zu bestimmen, welche zukünftig für einzelne FS-Projekte zuständig sein würden. Nach einer größeren Offline-Zeit 2001 wurde dazu übergegangen, daß jedes FS-Projekt weitgehend eigenverantwortlich geführt wird, sich dabei aber an die generellen Richtlinien des FSC zu halten hat.

	~~The primary activities of the~~ FSC ~~today include registering domains~~, ~~ensuring continued hosting of~~ FS ~~sites, determining general site policy~~, ~~communicating with outside bodies~~, ~~providing technical support for the various resources as well as the operation and maintenance of Free Spirits servers~~.		Heute liegen die Haupt-Aktivitäten des FSC also darin, diese Richtlinien anzupassen, die FS-Seiten zu hosten und technisch zu unterstützen, den Betrieb der Server zu gewährleisten, Domains zu registrieren und die Kommunikation mit außenstehenden Dritten zu diesen Zwecken zu übernehmen.
