The ''Journal of Sex Research'' is published quarterly since 1965 by the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. The Journal has an interdisciplinary character publishing articles from several disciplines including medicine, law, psychology, sociology, biology and history. It publishes empirical reports, theoretical essays, literature reviews, methodological articles, historical articles, clinical reports, teaching papers, book reviews, and letters to the editor.<br />

Over the years, the ''Journal of Sex Research'' has published many scholarly articles that carefully considered topics like [[homosexuality]], [[pedophilia]] and [[boylove]]. Among those include Sandfort's first English article of his pioneering study in man-boy relationships in the [[Netherlands]] (Vol. 20, No. 2, 1984), Okami's study about "child perpetrators" (Vol. 29, No. 1, 1992), Rind and Tromovitch first meta analytical study of the effects of [[child sexual abuse]] (Vol. 34, No. 3, 1997), Rind's examination of anti-boylove biases in human sexuality textbooks (Vol. 35, No. 4, 1998) and others.<br />
