New page

The Digiweb hosting crisis refers to an episode in the Spring of 1997 when Digiweb, a commercial internet provider that hosted BoyChat and several other on-line BL resources, sent an email to all webmasters of boylove related websites. Digiweb's management explained that they would no longer be willing to host sites with boylove content, and gave all webmasters a deadline by which to remove their sites.

This crisis was the impetus for the creation of the organization that later became the Free Spirits Committee.

The members of the Steering Committee met the challenge and raised enough money to move BoyChat, BoyLinks, FPC, and various other boards and pages to a more robust commercial server. In the process a spirit of activism overwhelmed the BoyChat community, and many projects, both public and private, were born.
