Kabouter who is affectionately called Kabby by his friends founded Jongensforum, the Free Spirits message board for Dutch-speaking boylovers, on 18 August 2000. He was webmaster of BoyWrite from May 2000 until September 2005. Kabouter also founded LifeLine although he never served on it.

He was a regular BoyChat poster and a member of the Free Spirits Committee in the mid to late 1990s and coined the term sadvocate in the mid-1990s.

Kabouter also founded the site I, Boylover, a collection of personal stories by boylovers. He hosted it independently on a Dutch server sometime in 1998 or 1999. It is currently hosted by Free Spirits.

He was the third webmaster of BoyLinks, after Accord and Sensitive Stephen.

Origins of his nick

On June 17, 2013, kabouter gave this explanation of his nick:

"The Kabouters were a group of urban anarchist revolutionaries in Holland in 1970 which had developed out of the Provo movement.

They had some great ideas and even got 5 members (10%) elected to the Amsterdam Council (Gemeenteraad) as well as seats in other cities.

The word Kabouter means gnome, goblin or leprechaun and was first used when the group founder suggested to an organic farmer that he use machinery to which he replied "Machines are noisy and chase away the Kabouters who keep our plants healthy".

I was about 17 at the time and very influenced by their ideology and tactics. I use the nick in homage." [1]
