Sex offender

A sex offender is a person who has been convicted of a sex offence. This may or may not involve a minor.
In popular usage, this term often is used to refer to a person who has been convicted of child molestation. Even when the connection between sex offenders and child molesters is not directly stated, it can often be inferred by context. The strategy of making an indirect connection between sex offenses in general and child molestation in particular is often used when advocating that new legal restrictions be placed on sex offenders.
