On appelle civilisation arabo-musulmane l’ensemble des domaines géographiques, humains et culturels qui sont soit arabes (ethniquement ou linguistiquement), soit musulmans.

Outre les cas incontestables comme l’Arabie, le Yémen ou l’Irâq, qui sont majoritairement arabes et musulmans, font également partie de la civilisation arabo-musulmane certains groupes non-musulmans mais arabes (ou arabophones), comme les chrétiens d’Orient et les juifs d’Afrique du Nord, et certains groupes non-arabes mais musulmans, comme l'Iran, l’Indonésie et les Berbères.

Conformément à l’usage français, on nommera « islam » (sans majuscule) la religion fondée sur le Coran, et « Islam » (avec majuscule) la civilisation et la communauté musulmanes.
