Ronald Gold is a psychiatrist who argued in 1973 that even if the overwhelming majority of contemporary homosexuals would turn out to be mentally ill, then the question would be whether they are so because of some intrinsic or inherent pathology, as psychoanalysts maintained, or because of the oppressive power of a homophobic society.
