Simon's diary by Jay Edson is a novel about the experiences of an eleven-year-old boy in West Virginia.

Publisher's description

The central character in this novel is a thoughtful eleven year old boy, Simon, who is trying to make sense of a confusing world within which he does not seem to fit. As the story unfolds, we see the events from a variety of other points of view in addition to his own. The setting is a small coal mining community in West Virginia that is deeply divided around the issue of mountain top removal. We not only hear the inner thoughts of the various characters, but we also learn about the diverse texts … books, stories, newspaper clippings, scientific theories, songs, poems, etc … that mold their thoughts and guide their behavior.
