On appelle uraniens un groupe de poètes britanniques d’inspiration pédérastique ou homosexuelle, principalement actifs entre 1888 et 1930 à Londres et à Oxford.
Liste des poètes uraniens
Pour suivre approximativement l’évolution du groupe uranien, les poètes sont classés ici par ordre chronologique de naissance :
- William Johnson, dit William Cory (Torrington, 9 janvier 1823 – Londres, 11 juin 1892), éducateur, auteur de Ionica (1858).
- Lord Henry Richard Charles Somerset (7 décembre 1849 – Florence, 10 octobre 1932), amant du jeune Harry Smith, homme politique, auteur de Songs of adieu (1889).
- Reginald Baliol Brett, vicomte Esher (Londres, 30 juin 1852 – Windsor, 22 janvier 1930), homme politique et historien, auteur de Foam (1893).
- Horatio Robert Forbes Brown (Écosse, 6 février 1854 – Venise, 19 août 1926), historien, auteur de Drift (1900).
- Edward Cracroft Lefroy (Londres, 29 mars 1855 – Londres, 19 septembre 1891), ecclésiastique, auteur de Echoes from Theocritus and Other sonnets (1885).
- Charles Kains Jackson (20 décembre 1857 – 1er décembre 1933), rédacteur en chef de The Artist and Journal of Home Culture, auteur de Finibus cantat Amor (1922), Lysis : a memory (1924), membre de l’Ordre de Chéronée.
- John Gambril Francis Nicholson (6 octobre 1866 – 1er juillet 1931), éducateur et photographe, amant du jeune William Alexander Melling (Alec), auteur de Love in Earnest (1892), A Chaplet of southernwood… (1896), A Garland of ladslove (1911), Opals and peebles (1928), membre de l’Ordre de Chéronée.
- Lord Alfred Bruce Douglas (Worcestershire, 22 octobre 1870 – Lancing, 20 mars 1945), auteur de Poems (1896).
- George Gabriel Scott Gillett (1er décembre 1873 – 1948), ecclésiastique, auteur de Love songs (1894).
