Talk:Ivan Noel
There seems to be some confusion regarding the correct spelling of his name. It is alternately given as "Ivan Noel," "Iván Noel," "Ivan Noël," etc. The French Wikipedia gives his name as "Iván Noel".
He is described usually as a French director. He was born in France. It is not clear if he has taken Spanish nationality (it would be unlikely that he has).
Usually (I believe) with foreign-language films, the foreign-language name is given first, followed by the English translation within parenthesis or square brackets.
- "Vacouver was fifth most voted by the public film from more than 200 films, staying ahead of the blind sunflowers ."
- Should "Vacouver" be "Vancouver"? Should "blind flowers" be capitalized (as the name of a film, if it is one)?
- Is this paragraph describing a vote taken on the film "In your absence" in Vancouver?
There are a number of "Spanglish"-type garbled phrases in the text. Do you have links to the original Spanish sources so definitive corrections can be made, which is preferable to "guessing" what was actually meant?
The official "Ivan Noel" website has downloadable .PDF "press kits" available for each of his films. My understanding is that the material contained in press kits is freely reproducible. These press kits contains stills from the film, as well as comments by the director about each film. Foreign-language film titles translated into English
Wikipedia uses this style:
- En tu ausencia (English: In Your Absence)
I think we should follow that style--I think it is much preferable to the style used in this article

Ivan Noel
Ivan Noel tends to be a very private person and does not like it when articles focus on him rather then his work and music. I know that he requested that a similar entry such as this be removed from Wikipedia. As a public figure, I understand that he should expect this type of recognition and that is why I am willing to let this article remain so long as Mr. Noel does not complain. Ivan Noel has been very gracious with BoyWiki in allowing us to use the graphics and movies stills from his movies and I wish to maintain a good working relationship with the man and not antagonize him.--Etenne

- I understand absolutely. I am a big fan of Noel and wouldn't want to make him feel uncomfortable. There is however a German, French, Spanish and Italian Wikipedia page on him already. I'm pretty sure Wikipedia wouldn't delete his article if he had complained. They seem to take the stance that it doesn't matter what the person in the article thinks, it only matters if it should be included in an encyclopedia or not. I'm definitely more in favor of the stance you are taking here in respecting the subject's wishes. Anyways, The history on the English Wikipedia entry says it was deleted due to lack of notability.

- Thanks for saving me the trouble of pointing out the other-language Wikipedia articles... I think the reason for the English Wikipedia article deletion is bogus--it's actually because he is suspected of being a BoyLover by certain Wikipedians, and they don't like to see his films publicized. I've seen that others (for example, Theo Sandfort) have had their articles deleted from the English-language Wikipedia for (so-called) "lack of notability" as well, while articles on them in other-language versions of Wikipedia have been retained.
- Of course, being labeled a "pedophile" has been the "kiss of death" for many professionals, so I can see the reason some would wish to protect Noel's reputation. User4 (talk) 05:51, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
"...is a Spanish..."
Yes, he lived and worked in Spain for some time (he has lived and worked in many countries), but we don't know if he applied for Spanish nationality; we don't know how his parent's nationalities affected his nationality; and we don't know what passport or passports he possesses. Mixing Spanish film titles with English translations of the Spanish film titles
I personally believe that all of the titles given should be in Spanish, with the English translation in parenthesis after them (that is the style usually followed in most publications, I believe). Also, I think that the film title "¡Primaria!" should include the initial Spanish-style opening exclamation mark, as I have included here. What do you think? User4 (talk) 04:17, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
