Protecting children's innocence is a phrase often heard in everyday speech, in the media and seen in academic articles about "pedophilia" and "child molestation".

In the past, the phrase "protecting women's innocence" was commonly used by moralists to deny women agency, and particularly sexual agency. The phrase "protecting children's innocence" is now used in the same way to deny children their right to agency.
