Puff, the Magic Dragon is a song written by Leonard Lipton and Peter Yarrow and made popular by Yarrow's group Peter, Paul and Mary in a 1963 recording and is a song about a dragon and his young friend Jackie Paper.

The song is sometimes said to be about forsaking heterosexual sex in favor of boylove as well as may contain veiled references to smoking marijuana. [1] This song could be compared to the Greek transfiguration myths [2], [3], [4] symbolizing the boys transformation into a man.

"A dragon lives forever but not so little boys

Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys"
