Puff, the Magic Dragon is a song written by Leonard Lipton and Peter Yarrow and made popular by Yarrow's group Peter, Paul and Mary in a 1963 recording and is a song about a dragon and his young friend Jackie Paper.

Sometimes said to contain veiled references to smoking marijuana [1], the song has long been a favorite among boylovers and could be compared to a modern version of the Greek transfiguration myths [2], [3], [4] symbolizing the boy's transformation into a man and the transition into the responsibilities of his adult life, leaving childhood things and his adult friend behind.

"A dragon lives forever but not so little boys

Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys"
