Unclear sentences

There are a couple of sentences I don't quite understand:

Subsequent episodes have been recorded via online Skype conversations and digitally spliced in post-production.

Does this mean that the episodes are recordings of Skype conversations? Why did they need splicing? Or did the author mean "condensed" or "edited" (general cutting and rearranging) for "spliced" (joining separate recordings)?

The episodes are currently open for anyone who would like to participate in the discussion. (From this edition.)

Not knowing anything at all about podcasts, I'm unsure what it means that an episode is "open". I assume that what is meant is that discussion of the episodes still is open.

Evil is good. Pedantery is productive.

It is difficult to record a whole Skype conversation from a local computer, Skype has certain protections meant to prevent it, so it means that each invidual is recording their own peice of the skype conversation and the various recordings are all sent to one person and subsequently spliced together.
I guess that the episodes being open means simply that people who would like to participate may ask to be a guest and talk on a later episode.

OK, I've reformulated the next-to-last sentence according to your explanation. Hopefully Rookiee or someone else will come along and see whether I got it right.
