Dr Jacob Breslow was forced resigned as trustee of transgender charity Mermaids after it was publicized that he spoke at a conference organized by the mental health advocacy group B4U-ACT, in 2011. Several News organizations have recent published misleading articles that lead the reader to believe that B4U-ACT is a political organization seeking to "normalize pedophilia". Mermaids has recently come under fire in the UK for recommending in unsafe procedures be provided to transsexual youth.
Mermaids says the organization is "completely at odds" with B4U-ACT values of seeking to advocate for safe and effective mental health services for minor attracted people, provided in a way that ensures dignity and respect of the person seeking treatment. They also object to the use of the term minor attracted person.
