- 1999 - Hey, Irish kids have the most adorable accents! - The Irish Minister of Justice, John O'Donoghue, announced on this date that he was considering setting up a special operational unit to police pedo activity on the Internet following the revelation that Ireland had the second highest activity rate in Europe. A spokesman for him said that he was concerned that Ireland was becoming a haven for pedos and that he was committed to stamping out any group using the Internet to exchange information on child victims. Twelve months of surveillance tagging on pedo Internet sites exposed a highly organized Irish pedo group of several hundred people using the sites for child prostitution, sexual gratification and to exchange information. Many European countries had set up similar tagging units and one set up in the UK by Scotland Yard was very effective in helping the police secure prosecutions.
