Current requests

Request that local description page for File:BLogo 930x818.png be unprotected. __meco (talk) 18:45, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

As far as I can tell it is not protected. --Etenne (talk) 13:23, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
I receive this error message: "Permission error - You do not have permission to create pages, for the following reason: This page has been protected from editing because it is included in the following page, which is protected with the "cascading" option turned on: " __meco (talk) 18:02, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
Can you explain to me what is your reason for wanting this? --Etenne (talk) 19:28, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
In order to add the local page to Category:BoyWiki-en images. __meco (talk) 19:57, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
See I am not understanding what the purpose of doing that is? It seems redundant.--Etenne (talk) 20:45, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
I want to start out with simply adding all image files to this category. Then, eventually create more specific categories for different types of images. __meco (talk) 14:23, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
Why not do that on Media wiki. If you want to categorize, I can give you access. However, we want to add to, not recreate. I assume as a European, you can speak more then one language and can understand the French and German a bit. Also, you have to be able to take advice from the French curator as he his the person who is primary on that part of BoyWiki. --Etenne (talk) 14:34, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
Doing the categorizing simply on Media wiki is not a good solution. Then those categories would be sequestered from the category structure of BoyWiki/en. Category surfing also would miss these categories in that case. Besides, I don't want to be the only person who was expected (or allowed) to edit the media pages. __meco (talk) 15:26, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
I am still not seeing the benefit of doing this (other then wasting disk space which is not unlimited). How does this improve the content of BoyWiki?--Etenne (talk) 15:33, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
Arguments about limited disk space when it comes to text files are usually considered to have become obsolete by the early 1990s. Unless the hard disks available to BoyWiki are in the <100MB range this should not be an issue. Please elaborate on your reasoning if you do find hard disk usage to be a real issue. Being able to categorize media files has the same advantages as being able to categorize other information content. It makes it feasible and convenient to browse a category structure looking for specific information and surf to related content. Without categorizing our media content users will find this quite impracticable when it comes to media files. __meco (talk) 16:13, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
OK, I will run this past the BoyWiki Council and see if they agree. This is not a question I know anything about. --Etenne (talk) 16:18, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
Exactly what are you contemplating running past the Council? It's not as if I'm not already categorizing image files. __meco (talk) 16:38, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
