Events

1904 - "I'll alert the media." - Legendary British Shakespearean actor John Gielgud was born on this date. He made his debut at the age of 17 at the Old Vic and had played Macbeth by the time he was 25, as well as other Shakespearean leads including Richard III. In 1953, at the age of 49, two of the more significant events of his life happened. He was arrested for his sexual involvement with a young man. Gielgud, whose taste for men and boys was well known to people who knew him, received a lot of support. In fact, the very same year he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth. There is no known report of him making a move on the then 5-year-old Prince Charles.[1]
